The City of Memphis signed a lease clearing the way for the Metal Museum to take over the space once occupied by the Memphis College of Art. Rust Hall was the main building for MCA. The school closed in May of 2020 because of financial problems. The Metal Museum is located on 3.2 acres along the Mississippi River in a former merchant marine hospital. Apprentices are housed in the east side of a duplex that accommodates up to four people at a time – three single occupancy rooms for extended stay residencies and one single occupancy room for short-term guests or summer interns.
